Orlando Biking Trails Provide Hours of Fun for the Whole Family!
Orlando is more than just the home of one of the most iconic theme parks in the US; the city also supports over 230,000 residents. One of the ways Orlando supports their community members is by providing them with a multitude of biking trails on which to get fresh air, exercise, and spend quality time with their families. It was difficult to pick our top Orlando biking trails as there were so many great ones. Take a look, find a new trail, grab your Hamax biking gear and the kiddos and get outside!
1. Cady Way Trail
Cady Way is a paved, partially shaded, 7.5-mile trail running from Lake Druid Park to a junction with the Cross Seminole Trail on Howell Branch Rd. The bridge over SR436 provides a nice little incline workout and keeps the kiddos away from traffic. This route is a great chance to check out several parks in the area as it runs through or near Ward Park, Lake Baldwin, High Park, and Lake Druid Park. Older children can test out the tot track featured in the mountain bike park inside Lake Druid Park. A dog park and community garden round out the area, making it fun for the whole family and our 4-legged friends!
2. Little Econ Greenway
The Little Econ Greenway runs for over 7 miles with a majority of the route following the Little Econlockhatchee River. A popular trail with both humans and wildlife, you’ll want to keep your eyes open for osprey, eagles, turtles, and alligators! This path is fully paved and has very few traffic intersections making it perfect for cyclists with small children and bike trailers. Make sure to roll the sun shade down on your Hamax Outback Multi-Sport Bike Trailer as much of the route is in full sun. If you need a break, Blanchard Park is situated in a perfect spot to stop and have a picnic before returning to the car.
3: Lake Baldwin
This 2.5-mile paved loop is perfect for beginners or those looking for a quick and easy way to get out of the house. With plenty of beautiful scenery to look at, you may even get two loops in before the kids notice! The off-leash dog area at Baldwin Park is the perfect place to let your furry friends play and offers the most shade along the route. If you’re feeling a bit parched (or starving) take an easy turn on New Broad St to visit a local restaurant for a quick refuel.
4. Lake Underhill Park
If you’re looking to get an extra workout in during your bike ride, then this is the perfect route for you. The 2.5-mile paved loop offers several different fitness stations along the path that meanders along the bank of Lake Underhill. The bridge that crosses the lake parallel to SR408 offers great views of the lake. Taking a small detour to visit Colonel Joe Kittinger Park provides a special treat; a speaker that lets passersby listen to the Orlando Executive Airport control tower. 5. West Orange Trail
While this trail is officially 22 miles long, there are plenty of stations along the way that offer parking and facilities so you can make your ride as short or as long as you want. Enjoy sections of full shade intermixed with full sun, bridge crossings, water views, and several local landmarks. Get the kiddos out for a short stroll through the Oakland Nature Preserve, or stop at the Briley Farm where you can see ostrich and zebras! View a map of the trail and parking stations here. Don’t forget your camera to capture everything this adventure trail will inspire!
6. Lake Monroe
The Sanford Riverwalk which follows the shoreline of Lake Monroe is a popular and scenic path for bikers, runners, and walkers. A short 2 miles each way, the paved route is perfect for those who are just beginning or with younger kiddos that aren’t sure about fresh air yet. Fort Mellon park at the East end of the riverwalk offers a spray park and plenty of benches for a break, as well as the Sanford Museum which features many pieces of local history. Drop in on downtown Sanford for fun restaurants and shops if you’re feeling the need to take a longer rest. View a map of the trail and area here.
7. Cross Seminole Trail
A cornerstone of the Orlando biking trail system, the Cross Seminole Trail stretches for 23 miles. Most areas are suburban and this paved route is popular with all types of travelers, including equestrian! There are plenty of amenities along the route as well as several parks to stop and enjoy. If you and the family enjoy a little off-roading, check out the Spring Hammock Preserve where you can wander through a cypress forest. If you’re planning to ride the full distance, make sure to pack sunscreen as much of the route is in full sun. To see a full trail map click here.
